I "Heart" Valentine's Wood Door Decor

I wanted to share my latest non paper crafting project for this Valentines.  I have been pinning a lot of pallet projects for inspiration, but haven't gotten my toes wet yet.  We have been cleaning out and found this old shelf from my college days.  We really didn't need it and were just going to donate and I thought WAIT, I can use that!  This really wasn't quite the reuse of a pallet, but could be easily adapted.

Here is the old college book shelf, it had a good run, but I like it's new life much better.  First I disassemble the bookcase.  This was fairly easy since it was held with screws.  Next I laid two of the shelves together, this was large enough to make my heart.  To connect them I took one of the legs and cut it to size with a chop saw.  Did I mention how much fun it was playing with power tools again, it had been too long.  Architecture school wasn't all bad I guess :)  Once my pieces were cut I them to the back of the two shelves.

I traced the heart on a large piece of paper and the transferred it to my wood slates.  Then it was time to put the jig saw to work.   Here is the rough cut out of the heart.

Then I sanded and spray painted it red, took it back to the sander for a little distressing.  Next was to create the hanger.  I used a wire hanger and wrapped it around a pipe to get the spiral shape.  Then I twisted the ends into a loop and attached with a screw.  Voila!  I festive heart for my front door.

Hope this inspires you to get out your power tools.

Happy Crafting!

Rustic Love

This Valentine's card goes for more rustic masculine look.  I used the "Woodgrain" embossing folder along with the "Hearts of Flutter" stamp set and framelits.

I know the glimmer paper doesn't  say rustic, but I think the burlap heart balances out the overall feel.

Enjoy,

Up Up and Away Love

To continue the Valentine theme, here is my first Valentine's card that I would like to share with you.  I used some new Stampin Up products.  The cloud embossing folder is called "Cloudy Days" and the balloon string is from "Owl Occasions".  The glimmer heart is cut from the "Hearts a Flutter" frame lists set with the "Tiny Tags" sentiment 'love'.

Simple way to let someone you know that they are loved.  I think I will be sending these to the grandparents from the boys with the addition of some thumb print hearts on the inside.

Happy crafting,
Melanie

Valentine's Card

Shhh everyone, I am posting my valentine's card to give my husband.  We have been married for 9 years now and have our two beautiful boys, Tyler (almost 4) and Bryan (one).  We aren't really big celebrators of this holiday, but we do enjoy giving each other a nice card with a personal message inside.  I thought this pull out card and card holder would be perfect for me to write a special note to him.

I didn't have any valentine paper so I decided that I would try to make some with my Cricut Color Inks.  I used my gypsy to fill a sheet of paper with hearts from the Sweethearts cartridge.  In the Gypsy I also modified the original card holder image.  I moved it over to the right to allow room for my "Love" sentiment on the side.  Next, I switched the blade back in and cut the card holder out.  The Gyspy was a great purchase for me and really allows me to be more creative with the Cricut.  There is no way I could have done this without it.  The "Love" sentiment was also from the Sweethearts cartridge and then I layered it on top of pink and read paper that I uses a corner punch on.

My husband doesn't really know what to make of this new hobby, but I hope he can enjoy the card.
